The Housing Contract
You should complete the SAL Housing Questionnaire on the SAL website and download the Housing Application Documents. Mail a signed application to the SAL office (Attn: Dina Chu). The University Housing Office cannot accept any faxes or scanned contracts. You should also include an initial payment of $600 made out to “SJSU Housing.” Please include your name and SJSU number on the payment. If you would like to make the payment with MasterCard or AMEX, contact Lenore Pizzuti, Housing Liaison.
The University Housing Office will send you an assignment letter once you have been assigned a room. The letter will include your room number, roommate information and instructions regarding check-in. This information will be sent to the email address you provided on your Living Preference form.
You are assigned rooms based on your request and the availability at that time. If you are not happy with your assignment and it is more than 30 days before the start of your contract, you are able to cancel the contract with a $50 cancellation. If it is less than 30 days, please refer to “Can I cancel my contract?”
Check-ins are done between 7pm and 10pm in the evening throughout the academic year. In August and January, special days and hours may apply. When you check-in, you will be given an access card and a room key. An RA will inspect your room with you and write down any damages to the room. When you check out, you will be charged for any new damages.
The day after you check in, please complete your Housing payment at the Cashier Desk on the 2nd floor of Campus Village B.
If you would like to extend your contract, go to the 2nd floor office and complete an inquiry form explaining your request. They will process your request and then you will have to make a complete payment for the new contract dates. Please go back to the Cashier Desk in 3-5 business days to complete the payment.
Yes. In order to qualify to live in Campus Village, you must be a student (SJSU or SAL), staff or faculty member of San José State University.
Just before your contract ends, you will receive a Cancellation Form from the University Housing Office. One week before you plan to check out, take your copy of the Cancellation Form you received from UHS and schedule a check-out appointment with your RA. You should also tell the Residential Life Coordinator. Check-out hours are between 7pm and 10pm in the evening. If you are not able to check out during these hours, please make an appointment with your RA.
Yes. If you feel there is an error in these damage charges, please submit a letter to the University Housing Office and documentation to support this claim. Appeals will only be handled in writing, no appointments or phone calls will be accepted. Charges will not be reversed while an item is in dispute; you are responsible for the full payment until the review is completed. At that time, if UHS finds that adjustments need to be made, any credits will be applied to your account. If you do not owe anything to SJSU, a refund will be issued. The letter related to disputing charges will be forwarded to Violeta (for last name from A to L) and Annie (for last name from M to Z), and they will contact you directly.
No, the License Agreement is for the entire contracted period. You may not break the housing contract unless you meet the specific criteria for cancellation. A $50 fee is charged for all cancellations. In some cases, you will be charged an additional cancellation fee equal to 30 days or one-month room fee.
You must notify University Housing Services and Dina Chu, SAL Housing Liaison in writing to cancel your License. If notification is received at least 30 days prior to the beginning of the fee period (the first day of the contract), you will receive a full refund less a $50 Cancellation fee.
You should log on to your MySJSU account at http://my.sjsu.edu. Click on the left side menu “Self Service” > “Campus Finances” > “Account Inquiry”. You should be able to find a summary of your payments and charges. If you do not have a password, please contact Lenore Pizzuti.
The Courtesy Desk is open from 4pm to 3am every a day. Joe West Hall also has a 24 hour desk. You can always ask them for help. Their phone number is: 795-5662. You should also contact your Resident Advisor. Each floor has an advisor that you can talk to about any problems. Make sure that you introduce yourself to your RA when you arrive.
If you have an emergency call the University Police: 924-2222.
You can always call the SAL office Monday through Friday between 8:00am-5:00pm at: 924-2660.
Each floor in the Campus Village has a student in charge called the Residential Advisor or R.A. You should go to your R.A. if you have a problem with your apartment, or if you have a problem with your roommates. For example, if the heat in your apartment does not work, or if you have difficulty living with one of the other students, your R.A. is the person to go to first. If you do not know who your R.A. is, go to the Courtesy Desk and ask them. Remember the R.A. is there to help you, so be sure to know your R.A.
If you do not feel comfortable with your roommate(s), you should first try talking to them. If that is not possible, speak to your R.A. They are there to help you. You can also speak to SAL’s Housing Liaison, Dina Chu. She can help you make a plan to speak to your roommate(s).
You should submit a maintenance request on the University Housing Website. This is the fastest way to report a problem.
